Was at a casino last night, for a show, not gambling purposes not my scene. There were leaflets all over encouraging responsible gambling as they were raking money in.

Hull City Tigers getting thrashed by Arsenal thus improving their chances of qualification for Europa Cup, which will probably increase their chances of relegation next season.

3 Oxymorons for price of 1.

I am currently watching a Canadian magician putting up a great case to win 2014 Britain's Got Talent 2014, a year after a shadow theatre group from Hungary won.

London Calling as a fear-inducing song.

A lot of football clubs in the capital play London Calling before matches (Millwall and QPR played it before Watford's recent visits there, as might Charlton Athletic a week tomorrow), but I actually feel at ease whenever I hear the song, probably because I am a Londoner myself.

Most of the lyrics seem to be about a parallel universe anyway and not about London, so as the song suggests, you should "have no fear".

Charlton Athletic indeed played London Calling before their match v Watford.

Returning to the topic of Oxymorons, I travel to and from that match on Southeastern, whose slogan is 'Making Connections'. For some reason, my train going back remained static at Charlton station for 10 minutes, causing me to be unable to connect with the train Lower Mound suggested I get from London Bridge to West Hampstead.

Hugh Macleod, Scottish rugby union player of the late fifties and early sixties, has just died.

Current Hawick president Rory Bannerman said: "He was the consummate professional and a legend throughout the rugby world."

Now when did rugby union cease to be amateur (at least notionally?).

An interesting choice of words. My guess is that it is unikely that Hugh Macleod received any payment for his services. But it's not that long ago - 25 years maybe? - when the word "professional" in Rugby Union circles was about the worst insult that could be applied to anyone. For a long time in cricket circles, and probably in other sports such as tennis, it was generally used in a rather derogratory way that might imply a mercenary approach or, at best, someone who was a bit of a journeyman. Now it's generally used as a compliment, and quite rightly so.

India, Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka brand their Twenty20 competitions as 'Premier Leagues'. However, surely a league considered as 'Premier' has to have potential for participants to change in the event of participants from that League performing poorly or participants from lower divisions performing well.

Most Leagues in Britain considered as a 'Premier League' have that potential, usually through promotion or relegation, or - in darts - by reviewing which players are in form and popular each year.

Or they are sponsored by Premier Widgets. Like "The World" newspaper is thought to have sponsored the World Baseball Series.
