First raindrops of the day at Taunton, as Sterlo does a raindance on the boundary...

345 to win.

Rain reportedly on its way imminently.

Wickets continue to fall at Edgbaston (which is probably a good thing).

Warwickshire 65-4 (a lead of 137)

Edit- make that 65-5.

I want that lead up to 270 at least.

Whatever happens from here... we should not forget the facts that it was our own slow over rate against Surrey and the odd tactics in the Essex home that have left us here.
Control the controllables, and we haven’t. Forget (hard though it is) the lack of the follow-on or the lead of 450, I recall Eski and Simmo only needing 40 from 10 overs against Essex for an extra batting point that we failed to get. These things are the reason we are in this mess.

Let’s forget arrows and pitches, those are outside our control. I don’t like being negative which I realise I am being, but we should only look inward if the worst should happen.

We are now entirely in the hands of the bottom team in division one, they have shown a lot of pluck and with two days left and Jeetan Patel up their sleeve I am relatively confident they will do us a huge favour.

But, if they don’t, we should not blame the ECB or Robin Hood or the Somerset groundsman or the umpires in the Essex away game (although, f*** me some of those decisions were horrible).

Not sure what else to say, I hope that in 48 hours everything will be rosy.

Middle Middle Middle!
Warks Warks Warks!

Well said. If we look to blame others then we'll never move forward.

According to Cricinfo " He has been out for no runs four times this season and, unless he can rectify matters in the second innings here, this will be the first English season since 2002 that has not witnessed a Bell century."

It's be a shame to break the sequence now, Ian.

Sadly I have very little confidence we can get anywhere near 345 or bat for the amount of time required to earn a draw. I'd love to be proved wrong, but nothing in recent weeks has suggested we're capable of batting our way out of this predicament.

Warwickshire it is then.

Yes- Warwickshire win, and we're safe- although they are currently 95-7 (a lead of 167)

We are 27-2, rain due soon, but dry tomorrow.

Wayne Noon, and/or a Warwickshire win looking our best options.

You couldn't make this up. Not only is one of the umpires at Taunton, Mike Burns, a former Somerset player but also a former Warwickshire player. So much for impartiality!!!

Tinkerbell playing a superb lone hand for Warwickshire.

So far last wicket has put on 50, with Bell farming the strike.

249-9

Hampshire need 259, by far the highest score of the game, to win.

We, meanwhile, are awful.

So it's Warwickshire or nothing now.

Hampshire need 259 to win.

Kevan James does not sound confident.

Hampshire need to score 259 to win. On a third day pitch. Where no one has yet reached 190. And after a last wicket partnership of 59 that shifted momentum massively in Warwickshire's favour.

If I were a Hampshire fan, I'd be very glum.

But as a Middlesex fan I see Bailey, Vince, Adams and Irvine and think it'll be a stroll in the park.

Head says we're staying up, heart says we're doomed.

That might be it for the day at both Taunton and Edgbaston, but should be full days play at both venues tomorrow.

c'mon you bears!

Live from Taunton unfortunately the rain I see is not flood like. They are showing live streaming of Warwickshire game which is now delayed by rain.

Tomorrow will be nervous with my mind on Edgbaston

For heaven's sake! Umpires have stood in matches involving their former county for years. And quite how do Warwickshire enter into this, given that they are already down? I've seen matches where the competence of the umpire was in doubt, but never the integrity.
