Always entertaining to see a team completely choke and throw away a victory they were seemingly coasting towards (unless it happens to the team you support, of course). Difficult to tell who looked more stunned and disbelieving at the end of the first T20 semi - the victorious Worcs team, or the Notts players who contrived to lose when needing just 11 off the final 2 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Blind panic is fun to watch for the neutral.

Notts fans are even more unforgiving on their Facebook page than our lot.

Many blame Duckett because they think he was playing for himself (wanting a not out 50 which in the end he didn't get) and the coaches son, who (although I'd forgotten it) could have effected an easy run out at the end of the Worcestershire innings, but fluffed it, allowing an extra run, which he just laughed off.

90 minutes later, and that fluff could be said to have cost them the match.

I can see a points penalty coming Somerset's way.

Watching on Sky (with sound down listening to our game)

3 front line spinners in Somerset side, 2 in Essex side, and Harmer on after 35 minutes.

Harmer is getting so much turn he is making Shane Warne look like Ollie Rayner.

Only reason Harmer hasn't got a wicket yet is because it is doing too much.

As in pitching to the right of off stump to the right hander, and deviating so much it wouldn't hit leg stump of a second set (so deviating by about 8 stumps worth if that makes sense)

Maybe Harmer needs to try less hard, or maybe he's just proving a point to the umpires.

Harmer would seem to have now found the right line and length....

As we've mentioned Darren Stevens a lot on this thread-

Kent have offered him a one year deal for 2020.

Very rare for a county to announce someone is being released, and then change their mind.

"It's behaving like a Day 12 pitch" says Nasser Hussein, commentating as Leach and Van de Merwe turn the ball right-angles. Good to see Somerset resorting to default when they face a must-win game.

Funny how it only ever happens when there is no 'downside' for Somerset. Just nothing to lose and everything to gain, so they go and do it.

Rules need changing so points deduction can apply to next season (because any points deduction now would be meaningless)

Marcus Trescothick has just come on as 12th man to a standing ovation. A nice end to the season.

Might as well have a carrier bag at leg slip.

He didn't move as it went past him for four.

Re: Other County Matches

and Essex have won the championship as they shake hands.

I believe you only get a deduction if it is two actionable pitches within twelve months - and the last one was just over twelve moths ago. Somerset are a very good team without this nonsense. A good rule of thumb is that if Roleof vdM is taking CC wickets, they have gone a bit too far.

Trescothick came on to field a few minutes after Varun Chopra had suggested it in commentary but I expect they already had it lined up. Great player for them and England and on top of that his openness about depression does him great credit.

Probably wrong thread, but,on Twitter it has been announced that July 17th next year,Dorset are playing Hampshire at North Perrott CC.
Is this date reserved for all the minor county vs 1sr class county 50 over games?
Are they going to be localised games?

Re: Other County Matches

Somerset had a forum the other day where members were told that their pitch for the final match against Essex was voted 'poor'

Was about 54 weeks after last poor pitch (so just outside the one year rule) but they still don't know if there will be a points deduction. Logically you would think if there is it would have to apply to next season (otherwise it is no punishment at all)

Not a match- but apparently Surrey now have SEVENTEEN seam bowlers on their books (reminds me of the time when they had about six keepers)

Morkel, Curren S, Curren T, Dernbach, Meaker, Dunn, Mckerr, Plunkett, Clark, Clarke, Atkinson, Patel, Reifer, Topley, Neiser, Taylor, Kimber.

If they were all fit and available some wouldn't even get in to a third XI.

What on earth are they playing at?

Stocking up in case of a no-deal Brexit, perhaps?

How are they not breaching the salary cap?

They are presumably not paying much for those on central contracts, which frees up money for other players. A fair number are apparently all rounders, possibly batting all rounders (a la George Scott).

Some of their experienced seamers may well depart but if they are under contract for 2020 would it have to be on loan?

So that is Amla and Topley on board. In the meantime we have signed....
