Re: Glamorgan v Middlesex 26th July 2019
Jonathan Winsky 26 July, 2019 21:37
Middlesex have now won more times in the first 4 matches of their Twenty20 campaign in 2019 than they did in 14 matches in 2018.

We have also won every match in our campaign when our top-order has been able to bat well, and have lost every match when that hasn’t happened. Thankfully, there has only been one instance when that hasn’t happened.

Although Stephen Eskinazi seemingly didn’t suffer a headache after the incident in the field, I am not sure if those charged with selecting our batting line-up will be free from pain in the head, as we have so far selected eight players who are predominantly batsmen in our campaign (Dawid Malan, George Scott, Eski, Nick Gubbins, Dan Lincoln, AD de Villiers, Paul Stirling and Max Holden), and six of those players have made at least one good contribution in this campaign. And that six does not include Stirlo (only made 10 in his sole appearance), Eoin Morgan or Sam Robson (who a few people would like to play in this competition). It would be great if we could fit more of those batsmen in our side, especially as I am unconvinced of our lower-order’s ability to score quick runs , but making such changes would surely weaken our bowling and probably force us to get overs from part-time bowlers rather than give four overs to each of our five main bowlers.

Although Tom Helm saw his statistics go in the wrong direction tonight, Steven Finn has had the opposite experience in the last two days, as his tournament statistics one over into yesterday’s match read 8-0-90-0. However, since then, Finn’s statistics read 7-0-39-5.
