Surprised The Telegraph haven't taken this report down.

From last week- Nick Hoult- England appoint Gary Kirsten as head coach.

Elsewhere it is suggested Kirsten gave an abysmally poor presentation and that cost him the top job.

Congratulations to Chris Silverwood on his appointment as England head coach.

Accuracy ain't a media virtue chunky. Being first with a headline is. Plus never let the facts get in the way of a good story. Hoult btw a big fan of the 100.

This month's issue of The Cricketer includes the Power League, "50 people who make English cricket tick". Nick Hoult is in there at #48 as "the breaker of cricket news par excellence". Clearly, as SM suggests, getting the scoop matters rather more than getting the facts right.

Good luck to Chris Silverwood, though I hope undue weight was not given to the quality or otherwise of Kirsten's presentation as opposed to his track record.

Someone at the ECB must have leaked the information to journalists. Maybe it was a 'semi-authorised' leak to create a bit of interest, so 'England expected to appoint Gary Kirsten' stories appeared all over the place, followed a few days later by 'England expected to appoint Chris Silverwood tomorrow' stories.

ECB leaking like that makes themselves look just as stupid as the journalists who jumped the gun, because annoyed journalists wanted to know why they had been given duff info, leaving the leaker no choice but to justify the duff info by saying , 'It was going to be Kirsten, but he blew it with a poor interview and poor presentation'

That must annoy both Kirsten and Silverwood, who was clearly second choice until the interview.

Apparently, not impressive at interview. Given the remit is to re-energise the test side, perhaps he was asked if he was a fan of the Hundread and expressed the view it would harm that process. Hope he did.
