Middlesex’s official website says that the fast bowlers fly out today, with the batsmen joining them on Tuesday. I don’t know if this is a deliberate tactic to ensure that when the batsmen face our bowlers in the nets, the batsmen will be less familiar with the conditions than the bowlers, which maybe the coaches feel could benefit the batsmen somehow. Or it could just be because the bowlers need more coaching or because there wasn’t enough space for the whole squad on one flight

The tour will also include two matches v Oman, with one being 50 overs and the other being ‘multi-day’.

Stuart Law has spoken to the club’s YouTube page ahead of this tour:

Read the bulletin again JW. The explanation seems pretty clear to me.
I take it that you and Dad will be giving this trip a miss?
Oman will prove tough opposition for Middlesex when they meet. They were unlucky to be eliminated in the recent20/20 Asia Cup Qualifiers, going out only on net .run rate.
One to watch is all-rounder Aquib Ilyas.

I missed this. Did they go in the end? I assume not

Lovely ground - heat might have been a bit of a problem though.

This tour was due to run between 7th and 19th March, but the party returned to London on 16th March due to fears that staying any longer would have ran the risk of being stranded in Oman.

It is sad that after everyone had seemingly had little difficulty in spending much of the winter and spring gearing up for the season to start in April, the coronavirus pandemic came into full effect just a few weeks before those preparations were due to have hopefully borne fruit.
