Select a team of test cricketers (all countries) with the names of birds. The names don't have to be spelt totally correctly but they must sound identical to the real bird
The umpire would of course be Dickie Bird.

Peter Martin
Umar Gul
Aaron Finch
Walter Robins
Mason Crane
Joseph Partridge
Alan Knott
Harry Howell
Avril Starling (you didn't specify males!)
Ashley Woodcock
Neil Hawke
Jeff Crowe

Jackson Bird would be a bit naughty.

John Swift or Alan Whitehead would have to be the other umpire and the ball would have to be a Kookaburra.

Regrettably I could not find a player called Oystercatcher.

Remarkable.

I can only add Vasbert Drakes to the above.

There is an Australian bird called the butcher bird so we can add Roland in. But not Jeremy Snipe.

If you allow nicknames that brings in Bob Willis and Glenn McGrath.

Too easy if you allow syllables, Kev! Dave WRENneburg, Tim ROBINson...

Dave Wrenneburg might be pushing it a bit!! Tim Wren would do. John Woodcock to report on the match.

Done to death I think.

OK. Let's have a Middlesex team composed entirely of towns or cities in England Scotland or Wales.

I'll start off with Ian Peebles.

Re: Tweet

Dennis Compton (if we can have a village).

Re: Tweet
freddie tittlemouse 15 June, 2020 21:11
I don't think Phil Newport ever played for Middx. And we don't really need villages. There are at least 14 players with city or town names that I can find.

Hugh Bromley-Davenport is within a letter of counting twice.
David Burton
Steven Crook
Mark Feltham

Too many of them! - I'll stop there.
