On your general point of Ravi's batting skills chunky. There were signs of improvement during his last season's in the few games he was given. Likely though that his card had been marked long before, so ignored.

Ravi's runs in the 2nd innings at Grace Road in 2018 were arguably the thing that made the team realise we could chase 380odd. Sticking around for an hour as nightwatchman was key.

150/7 at Radlett.
well remembered talliman. I saw most of that game bar last day. He was treated appallingly by the 2009 regime. Rayner their choice always.

It looked like it was going to be a good day for Middlesex’s lower-order after runs from John Simpson, Blake Cullen and Miguel Cummins, but our last three wickets fell at a quicker rate than we tend to lose top-order wickets, falling for two runs in seven balls. At least extras made its usual high contribution.

I often hear about matches between representative teams from Middlesex and Berkshire when I search online for news on Middlesex, but scorecards of these matches never seem to be published, and Middlesex never inform people of the matches or whether spectators are permitted. As others have said, I suppose that the club are caught between wishing for players to get some cricket under their belts, but not wishing to be seen to risk coronavirus spreading amongst potential spectators.

I was very happy about Sussex’s first four wickets falling at a similar rate, which prompted me to switch on the stream, although I didn’t see any further wickets due to Ben Brown and Delray Rawlins being able to see out the rest of the day. If Middlesex can take further wickets tomorrow and prevent partnerships forming, then maybe we can win, although that would surely require us batting better.

I assume that Tom Haines will bat at some point tomorrow, as although he didn’t open in the second innings after having back spasms in the first innings, he returned late on in the first innings. If he is unable to bat, then Sussex’s start to their second innings would have made them five wickets away from being all out after 5.1 overs.

Tim Murtagh has spoken to Middlesex’s YouTube page about today:

Where would we be without Tim?
I think the Cummings signing was a good one. Keeps things tight and takes wickets consistently.

No doubt the post mortem will say 'We were 50 odd runs short' as usual.
Why we persist with Eskinazi is a mystery - the other 10 players are not good enough to carry a captain

Hmmmm ..... As a Middlesex follower, seeing a scorecard of 33-4 doesnt seem like a bad start batting wise

Weather forecast suggests a full days play today (plus 8 overs from yesterday can be made up), but quite possibly no play tomorrow.

Although due to stop raining mid-afternoon, ten hours or so of rain will probably have done enough damage to prevent any play.

So need to get the job done today.

33 for 4 gets us back in the game if we follow up. Whatever they get added to a 90 deficit will require gumption to chase down. The number of lbws suggests the ball is staying low. COTM.

Each day at Radlett the commentator poses viewers a Middlesex-related question. He's obviously already running low on inspiration, as today's question is "What is Angus Fraser's favourite film?".

My suggestion: Arsenic and Old Lace.

16 no balls. Who do we have to thank for that?
