Jeremy Kemp wrote an article with this title in the mid-1980s. Who? Kemp, who died in July was an actor whom I most remember for playing one of the original four Z Cars constables in the early 1960s - PC Steele.

He has suggested various apposite cricket matches going purely on the names of the villages and towns concerned.
Here are some of his many suggestions:

Catbrain v Mousehole
Cow Honeybourne v Donkey Town
Farmyard (Clwyd) v Farmers (Dyfed)
Gallows Green v Hanging Langford
Hassocks v Kneeshall (or maybe Nether Cassock)
Heath v Wilson
Hutton v Washbrook
Moscow v Washington
Rake v Maidenhead
Buttocks Booth v Pratts Bottom
Flushing v Looe
Peover Superior v Piddle Trenthide
Barton in the Beans v Thornton le Beans
Dragons Green v Druid
Fence v Law
Mid Cowbog(Banffshire) v Muckfoot (Ayrshire)

Some of you well-travelled folk will, I am certain, be able to produce more such fixtures of your own.
