I have heard suggestions that the county Twenty20 competition may be reduced from 14 group matches per side down to 10 when the new structure is introduced in 2020. However, an article on Cricinfo says that the competition is so popular amongst counties, that they are lobbying to increase the amount of group matches to 16, as previously happened in 2010 and 2011. A lot of people would say that the 2018 group stages were well-attended around the country, but I am unconvinced whether expanding the group stages in 2020 to 16 matches will yield much success, as the matches are expected to take place between mid-May and mid-July, which isn’t as conducive to generating high attendances compared to the competition's present July/August slot, when the school year is either winding down or has finished, and when the temperatures are often warmer. The article says that one of the reasons why the 16-match format wasn’t particularly successful in 2010 and 2011 was because some of the matches took place on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays, which aren’t as popular with supporters as the other days of the week, but I imagine that those days will have to be used as of 2020 if 16 matches are to be accommodated.

The article also says that support for a conference system in the County Championship seems to have waned of late. I am in favour of such a system, but only if it is similar to how I initially understood it to be.
