Gidman aims to be ready

Gloucestershire's captain aims to be ready for the start of the 2010 season.

Gloucestershire's captain Alex Gidman is convident he will be ready for the start of the 2010 season after coming through his key hole surgery on his troublesome ankle injury.

 Gidman has been mainly used as a middle order batsmen after damaging his ankle in 2008 and has bowled sparingly since, but he remains optmistic that he will be ready. Talking to TIG Gidman said "There was a small bit of bone growing on my ankle which was rubbing against the tendons and causing me pain.

"They went in there and shaved it down and cleaned it up and, hopefully, the operation will have done the trick.

"I'm now working on my rehabilitation and I've been told I can resume running in January.

"I have a programme all worked out for me and I'm sure I'll be ready to play by the time the season starts in April. As for bowling, I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.

"I probably won't know for certain whether the surgery has been successful until midway through the season because I have always been able to bowl after a period of rest."

 Gidman, who had his stiches removed yesterday had a batting average of 44.69 in first class cricket last season.
