Silverwood will remain with Yorkshire, who are due to begin their Frizzell County Championship match with Surrey at Guildford on Wednesday, but will join up with England if there are any more injuries to the squad.

Darren Gough withdrew from the squad for Lord's on Monday and England are already without injury victims Andrew Caddick, Marcus Trescothick and Alex Tudor.

Coach Duncan Fletcher said: "We've put Silverwood on stand-by. He's gone to Guildford and we've told him to be ready to come and join us if there are any other injuries."
