Two points dropped in a thriller at St James'

Paul Scholes bagged two excellent goals but it was not enough to secure the win United's dominance deserved. Newcastle who lead 1-0 fought back to level the game and hung on for a draw in an exciting match at St James' park. After the 2-2 draw with Newcatle United the Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said. "We missed a stack of chances but we have to admire Newcastle's character, they deserved their point. We should have won the match but we did not play as well as we have been because they did not allow us to play. I have nothing but praise for them. It is a real challenge now for the championship but we are a serious contender and points will be dropped by both teams."
