Birch leaves after contract talks break down

Lincoln City and Gary Birch have gone their seperates ways after weeks of contract negotiations fell apart. Still living in the West Midlands, Birch wanted a 2 year contract but the club were unprepared to give him that length and after nearly 2 months, Birch leaves Sincil Bank.

Birch initally joined the Imps from Kidderminster Harriers last season and quickly took himself to the top of the scoring charts and by the end of September, he was already on an impressive 7 goals in all competitions and it looked a strong possibility that he would quickly get to the 20 goal mark but as his goals dried up, he found him place in the squad in jeopardy before eventually starting on the bench. He added just 4 more goals to his tally after the first 2 months.

Birch was automatically offered a new contract after playing more than 25 games in last season but Birch wasn't happy with the deal as he was looking for a 2 year deal, or at least one which would mean he wouldn't have to travel at 6am to get to training every day by offering him accomodation. After 2 months of negotiating however, this has completely fallen apart and the club have decided to retract the offer of a contract. This also coincides with the news that City are set to sign Mark Stallard.
