Lincoln City took the lead against Aston Villa in a friendly before eventually losing against the Premiership team. City put in a credible performance against a strong Villa side that included Milan Baros and Lee Hendrie amoungst others. The game eventually finished 4-2 to Villa.

City eventually took a 2-1 lead after Danny Bacon and Ollie Ryan had turned around Lee Hendrie's early goal. Milan Baros equalised on the hour mark before Martin Laursen and Wilfred Bouma both scored injury time goals to beat the Imps 4-2. It was however a good performance according to Imps boss, John Schofield.

He told the official site : "We competed very well against a very strong side and turned in a good performance. It was a different type of test for us in that we had to remain patient and disciplined and when we had possession, we had to be precise with our passing. We went 2-1 up with some good forward play and all-in-all, it was a good test, a good learning curve and a very worthwhile exercise."

This was a behind-closed-doors friendly due to neither side having a reserve match-up and it also gave the Imps the chance to look at potential loanees from the Premiership club.
