In our latest reaction, we talk about how it's wrong for some fans to cheer hyperactively after a pretty poor performance. In a typical Lincoln City performance, closing down the opposition was at an absolute minimum, but at least the defence did their job and kept Bristol Rovers out.
Earlier in this season, the Imps were top of the table and looking destined for automatic promotion, 7 months later and we’re just about to make the playoffs for the 5th year in a row. It seems almost ironic in a way that Bristol Rovers are now the only side outside of the top 7 that can overtake us. The game against Rovers was a perfect example of how the Imps have played since going top.
There were countless times that Bristol Rovers had unchallenged headers, there were several other times when City players were just stood watching as the opposition players went past them, and of course there were times when there were 3 City defenders to one Bristol Rovers attacker, with the attacker winning every time. It was just an incredibly frustrating performance and it’s unfortunately the type of performance we’re getting used to. I don’t know why Schofield has said it was a good performance, the only part of the team that played well were the defence, in particular Mayo and Morgan. The midfield didn’t create anything for the attackers, Stallard didn’t seem to do anything all day and Forrester not only missed chances, but missed them in spectacular circumstances.
I don’t understand why everyone had cheered like we’d won when the final whistle blew, you’d only ever cheer a draw if it was the final day and you’ve either won something or survived, or secured a draw in the 2nd leg of the playoffs after winning the second leg, you don’t cheer frantically when your team has just played badly and failed to have a shot on target.
This reaction is shorter than usual because I’m tired of repeating myself time after time this season.
By the way, who thinks the quote “I’ve only ever seen us win at Gay Meadow” (from the
