Reaction to Shane Clarke's 2007/8

Shane Clarke was another youth teamer to come up into the first team during the season but I'd be lying if I said that I was personally impressed by him. Infact, I'm struggling to think of a single good thing to say about what he did during the season. PLAYER : CLARKE

I'm not going to lie, Shane Clarke hasn't done anything to impress me during the season. At first I thought it was just him taking a while to adapt, but then he made a stupid mistake at Rotherham when he went up for a header leading with his elbow. I thought that it was just a simple mistake, but it kept on happening and it just got beyond silly.

He also seems incapable of making a positive contribution towards the game. I can't recall him doing one positive thing during the season and I was quite frankly amazed when the club offered him a new contract.

There is always the chance that he could improve in the future, but he is highly unlikely to survive at the club much longer if his performances don't get better, especially with the expected influx of new players.

Have to say, I was a fan of his at reserve level, but he's been rubbish in the first team. And comments like the one in the Echo today saying the new deal was "not for me" aren't going to make him a popular character

That's as maybe, but until you KNOW what the club offered him I would be very wary of getting too critical. Knowing how 'cautious' the club are, they could very well have offered him pittance, which any self respecting person might be inclined to try and re-negociate.

His choice of words could have been better, but I think a few too many people have been a bit too quick to damn him for this.
