Lincoln City's game against Brighton in 2003/4 was the last time that City won a first round match in the FA Cup. The game will probably be remembered most for it's anti-Peterborough tone due to Keith Alexander being linked with the Posh. Little did we know it would be the last time Keith managed City for three months.

City lead up to the game with Brighton with the news that Keith Alexander was wanted as the next manager of Peterborough United. This only added to a brilliant atmosphere that inspired a very confident City display against a side who were promoted to the Championship at the end of that season.

A fairly decent 419 fans had travelled up from Brighton. They could only watch as Yeo put the ball in the net after just three minutes, but they were also thankful that the offside flag had been raised and the goal was disallowed. Mayo hit a free kick straight at the wall as the Imps tried to secure an early goal.

It was a confident start by the Imps and City opened the scoring in the 13th minutes when Ben Futcher was pulled down in the box from a corner and the Imps were awarded a penalty. It was an unusual site due to those situations often being ignored by referee's. Mayo stepped up for it and scored his second penalty in as many games.

City were on top but it took a while for the Imps to strengthen their lead. But it was 2-0 after 35 minutes when Matt Bloomer just seemed to get the ball stuck between his feet following a cross from Francis Green. Bloomer finally smashing the ball as hard as possible into the top right hand corner of the goal. It was a near identical goal to the one he had scored against Manchester City in the pre-season.

City made it 3 after ten minutes of the 2nd half when a corner was headed goalwards, it was caught by Kuipers but he somehow managed to drop it straight into the path of Yeo and the striker had an easy task of popping it into an empty net.

Brighton pulled a late goal back whilst the Imps were down to ten men. Morgan was recieving treatment off the pitch and a cross went over everyone except Futcher, he headed it backwards and McPhee headed it into the empty net.

Neither side managed any other chances and City went on to secure their 6th home win in a row

City went out to Southend in the next round, if we had won that then we would have faced Scott Kerr and Colin Cryan's Scarborough, win that and we would have faced Chelsea.

Brighton went on to win promotion from League One via the Playoffs, a Leon Knight penalty beating Bristol City in the final after a tight semi final affair against Swindon.
