Imps face Derby in Carling Cup

Lincoln City will travel to Derby County in the first round of the Carling Cup. The clubs last met in the competition in 2004/5 when City won 3-1 at Sincil Bank. This could cause chaos with our pre-season though as we are due to face Derby in a friendly in July.
The Imps won the previous meeting between the sides 3-1 and that matched was recently voted in the Top 20 matchs during this site's existence. City won on the night thanks to goals from Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Simon Yeo and Jamie McCombe.
The sides are due to meet in a pre-season friendly at Sincil Bank on July 26th, but now that friendly is unlikely to take place due to the sides playing each other in the Carling Cup little over two weeks later.
City will be hoping to progress to the second round for the first time since the 2005/6 season. The Imps mauled Championship side Crewe in the first round before going out to Fulham in the next. City haven't won a single knock out competition game since then, losing two Carling Cup first round games, two JP Trophy games, two FA Cup defeats and losing all four Playoff semi final matches we've had.

Nathan, would'nt it have been better to state 'that this draw puts the friendly match in doubt' as your original wording implies that you are making a statement on behalf of the clubs?

2003/04: Huddersfield Town 2 v 1 Derby County
2004/05: Lincoln City 3 v 1 Derby County
2005/06: Derby County 0 v 1 Grimsby Town
2006/07: Doncaster Rovers 3 v 3 Derby County
(aet, pens 8-7)
2007/08: Derby County 2 v 2 Blackpool
(aet, pens 6-7)
Penalties look like a good bet.
I can't see any reason why it wouldn't just because we are going to play them in a competitive match a few weeks after.
It has already been arranged.
Who cares?
It is preparation for a new season.
