Reaction to the Barnet game

Another week and another defeat for Lincoln, but at least we looked reasonably dangerous this week and arguably should have won after bossing the game against the Bees. It was a game where Patulea made an extremely rare start, scoring his second goal against Barnet of the season. Another week, another defeat. It seems almost ironic that we would lose our next two games after Burch came out in the Echo and said we had recovered from the defeat to Grimsby. The only difference between this and other games was that we were generally the better team. We had so many chances that we could have easily won that game by four or five goals....but then again we did have Janos "Can't mark, won't mark" Kovacs in the side.
It's ridiculous how many goals Kovacs costs us from not sticking with the player he's supposed to be marking. Then again, he's not the only defender who isn't performing. I still find it amusing that people think Beevers is a candidate for Player of the Season because he legs it forward every now and then. The only consistent defenders are Frank Sinclair and Danny Hone, and yet Frank gets loads of abuse from our own fans, that despite NEVER actually costing us a goal.
However, one thing we certainly need next season is a striker who can score 20 a season. Patulea could easily score 15 if he was actually given a start more than once every 4 months, but other than him no other striker here permanently ever looks like scoring, even N'Guessan wasted some brilliant chances yesterday. It says it all really that we've now played all but a small handful of games and not one of our players has hit double figures.
One thing that I was quite pleased about was the game was actually entertaining, the first time I've been able to say that about a game in ages. If it wasn't for the Barnet "fans" in the terrace seemingly more interested in us than the game then it would have been a decent day out. Oh well, I'm sure we'll be back here next season for our usual round of abuse.
So the season IS over now, maybe not mathematically, but certainly realistically.

5 - Lee Beevers | 3 | Being able to run upfield doesn't make you a good player, especially when you're a bit toss when it comes to defending. | |
6 - Frank Sincilair | 6 | The most consistent member of this season's defence. Didn't make a mistake and made one or two vital clearances. | |
9 - Geoff Horsfield | 4 | How symbolic of his impact that we stopped attacking as soon as he came on. | |
11 - Scott Kerr | 5 | Suddenly liking his forward runs every now and then, shooting from distance....just a pity he can never get it on target. | |
11 - Dany N'Guessan | 6 | Missed chances all of the place, a few weeks ago and he would have put them all in, now he's missing even easy opportunities. | |
15 - Ben Wright | 5 | Tries hard but is nowhere near as effective as last season. Then again, I'd rather have him trying than Horsfield looking disinterested all the time. | |
17 - Michael O'Connor | 7 | Has appeared to be a decent loan signing and took his goal well. | |
23 - Adrian Patulea | 6 | Tried hard and got his goal, hopefully he will continue to start games and score us goals that see us finish top half......now what as he's dropped next week. |

Paul Green 5 Some good tackles but left himself exposed.
Aaron Brown 6 Worked hard put in some telling crosses.
Janos Kovacs 5 Good at heading reasonable passing but positionally very slow
Lee Beevers 4 What has happened to you. Backed off or rather didn't tackle. Winger left him for dead.
Frank Sincilair 6 Again used his experience to clear dangerous situations, inevitably lacks pace.
Geoff Horsfield 5 Chased back well but did nothing up front.
Scott Kerr 6 Worked quite hard in midfield, quite accurate in his passing.
Dany N'Guessan 6/7 Some good crosses and great runs first half but should have scored two goals.
Ben Wright 5 Chased around but not his best game.
Michael O'Connor 7 Like DNG too good for this team. Hard tackling, always running MOM.
Adrian Patulea 6 Good position for goal but otherwise a bit ineffectual.
burch and n'guessan perhaps would be in the running for that title. maybe kerr an outsider. clutching at straws beyond those
Kerr for me. At least he has had a consistent season, and has never given up trying.
Beevers was a candidate up to the middle of Feb, but he has gone downhill as soon as the word "contract" has been mentioned.
