Imps midfielder, Peter Gain could be set for a move to Championship side, Sunderland. The Blackcats are said to be after another left midfielder and scouts were in the stands at Darlington to watch Gain's best performance in a long time for City.
Sunderland are being linked with a move for Lincoln City midfielder, Peter Gain. Scouts from the Championship side were sitting in the stands at Darlington last Saturday where Gainy had his best game for a very very long time and was unlucky not to score.
Sunderland are looking for another left midfielder to accompany Julio Arca and Andy Welsh. The Sunderland manager, Mick McCarthy is becoming well known for raiding the lower leagues after buying Mansfield's Liam Lawrence and Dean Whitehead from Oxford.
"Mick McCarthy has been looking for left-sided players for some time, and I would not be surprised if they were about to make a move for Peter," an unknown source from the Black Cats told the Echo.
"Although he signed Andy Welsh, he is only a young lad and McCarthy is looking for someone a bit more experienced.
"Mick has already signed players from League Two and he would have no problem doing so again."
Keith Alexander remains unsuprised that some of his players are gaining (no pun intended) attention from the higher leagues.
"Peter has done well this season and has been an exceptional player for me," said Alexander. "So I would not be surprised if someone was watching him, or any of my players for that matter.
"As for Sunderland's interest, it's news to me. But as I have said before, many of my team could play at a higher level.
