League 2 review (Boxing day

Bristol Rovers drew 1-1 at home to Leyton Orient, Lockwood give the visitors an early lead from the penalty spot before Ryan got sent off after 6 minutes. His goal was to be cancelled out by a goal from EX-Hull City player Jamie Forrester, his goal also coming from the spot 9 minutes before the hour mark. Both teams having only won 1 of there previous 5 games would consider this as a fair score.

Newly promoted Chester City hosted top of the tree Scunthorpe United. Torpey gave the visitors an early lead which only lasted 16 minutes due to Ellison bagging a 19th minute goal.

Rochdale travelled to Darlington full of confidence with 3 games out of 5 they have won. They didn’t disappoint at Darlo either, Atieno got the opening goal of the game after just 18 minutes. Dale ran away with it in the second half with Holt scoring twice inside 16 minutes (62,78). The win moved Rochdale up to 7th in the league inside a play off spot!

Having just won 2 in their last 5 Grimbsy Town welcomed Macclesfield to Blundell Park, the game ended a disappointing  0-0, seeing 2 players from each side getting booked, Bull (Grimbsy) and Tipton (Macclesfield).

Welsh side Swansea travelled up to Kidderminster for their Boxing Day fixture and didn’t disappoint their travelling fans with a stupendous 5-1 win with 10 men most of the game. Conner and Iriekpen put the Swans 2-0 up inside the first 10 minutes giving Swansea a 2-0 lead. On the 29th minute Gurney got sent off for a professional foul, but this didn’t stop a lovely Swansea performance. Kiddy clawed their way back into the game after 82 minutes with a goal from Birch. But Swansea got a penalty on the 89th minute and Robinson made no mistake from the spot, just a minute later Goodfellow made it 4-1 with a goal on the 90th minute mark, and then to wrap the game up Robinson got his second of the day deep into injury time.

Oxford United made a short travel to Rushden & Diamonds with only 2 wins from 5 games behind them. This didn’t look so bad when Hackett gave the visitors an early lead after just 14 minutes. Dove cancelled that goal out though after 37 minutes but the equalizer only lasted 6 minutes after Bradbury scored to put the U’s 2-1 up at the break. Bell got an early second half goal for Rushden levelling the game up to 2-2. And soon after Taylor made it 3-2 to the hosts with 28 minutes to go. Oxford levelled the game up 13 minutes from time with a goal from Davies, Tommy Mooney also got sent off on 85 minutes.

Promotion chasing clubs Wycombe and Southend went head-to-head, and the away team came out on top with a 17th minute goal from Freddy Eastwood. This made it 4 wins in 6 for Southend United.

Yeovil Town got off to a rocky start at home to Cheltenham, falling behind after a Mark Devaney goal after just 17 minutes gone. The west country team hammered Cheltenham after that going in 2-1 at half time with goals from Gall and Jevons. Davies made it 3 after 80 minutes, before the younger brother of Jon Terry (Paul Terry) made it 4 after 86 minutes.
