Torquay United have returned to this division after only 12 months despite a brave fight at the end of last season. Only a last day defeat relegated them after 4 straight wins had given them a chance but overall, that wasn't enough and were relegated with an unusually high 51 points.

Last Season In 2004/5, Torquay had just got promoted from this division and after destroying Lincoln twice in the 03/04 season, we were predicting them to do rather well but it didn't quite work out like that. They had sold leading goal-scorer David Graham in pre-season and the effect was immediate, winning only own of their games before October and that came at Stockport.

 

Most had them nailed on for a return straight back down to League 2 although 3 wins in November picked them up a bit. However, the relegation form set in again and going into the final 5 games, they looked doomed but 4 wins later, and they had the chance to save themselves on the last day, infact, all they needed to do was simply avoid defeat on the last day to guarantee staying up. However, a 2-1 defeat, coupled with a 2-1 win for Milton Keynes saw the Gulls relegated straight back despite a brave fight at the end. 

 

This season? As I said, Torquay destroyed the Imps when they were last in the division and half the other teams as well. However, despite having a relatively good squad, the majority of teams struggle after coming straight back down and although they should finish mid-table, that'll seem a disappointment to the Gulls.

 

Prediction 16th - As I said, very few teams do well after getting relegated back.
