City's first year professional, Lee Frecklington is making the most of a shock call up to first team action in recent weeks. Frecklington has come out of no-where to become an exciting prospect for the Imps and he looks set to possibly establish himself as a regular in the first team.

Before this season, Frecklington's only major appearances for the Imps had come in the LDV Vans Trophy competition and in the pre-season friendly with Manchester City at the beginning of the 2003/4 season . Now Frecklington is making the most of the oppurtunity handed to him in recent weeks by manager Keith Alexander. Fellow youngsters, Leon Mettam and Ollie Ryan have had chances in the first team this season, with the latter playing his part in 9 games but failed to impress and many feel that his chance is now gone.

If Frecklington does go on to establish himself as a first team regular, he will be the first to do so since Paul Mayo made his debut away at Swansea in the 1999/2000. Speaking to the Lincolnshire Echo, the young midfielder revealed his delight at not only getting a chance in the first team, but what it was like to score his first goal for the Imps.

"It's important to keep my feet on the ground and just keep doing what I am doing - which is working hard in training and trying to impress when given the chance, Saturday's game was especially sweet because I scored my first goal for the club and I was delighted to get off the mark. The fans could tell from my celebrations how much it meant to me - I was over the moon. I'm really enjoying my football at the moment and it was nice to cap that off by scoring my first professional goal - let's hope there are a lot more to come."

Frecklington's first goal came when his shot was deflected onto the post and the 20 year old was left with a simple tap in to make it 3-1 to the Imps and it turned out to be the winning goal as City won 3-2 at lowly Stockport on Saturday afternoon. There are high hopes for the midfielder who, last week, was tipped to be the replacement for the departing Dean Keates. Frecklington could make his first ever league start for the Imps on Saturday against Torquay United.
