Sherlock stay comes as complete surprise

Lincoln midfielder Jamie Sherlock has signed a new contract despite not evening making the bench since joining in March. Sherlock was brought from non-league neighbours, Gainsborough Trinity and although no-one expected him to start straight away, he has been restricted to the reserves.

The 23 year old midfielder was arguably the most shocking signing of the season when he joined on transfer deadline day but many remained unsurprised that he hasn't even featured on the bench for the Imps. Sherlock's contract was due to expire in the next few weeks but it has been extended for another year which is arguably more shocking than signing him in the first place.

I've seen him play once in the reserves and to be fair, he was one of the few bright spots in a 3-1 defeat to Sheffield United Reserves B. The former Gainsborough, Brigg and North Ferriby man's new contract could be indication of several current midfielders about to leave the club as Nat Brown and Scott Kerr are both believed to be out of contract although it would be highly surprising if neither have been offered new contracts.

Sherlock will more than likely get his first chance to play with the first team in the pre-season friendlies against Leicester and Liverpool, as well as the Nottingham Forest fixture which is likely to be confirmed in the near future.
