Abbey Glass Division 1

The game between Marehay and Shipley Hall was abandoned because the pitch was waterlogged. Both sides gain 5 points. The drainage at Marehay’s ground must be cause for concern. This is not the first time a game has been called off there when their rivals have been able to play.

West Hallam 187-7 beat Elvaston 131 by 56 runs

This 27 point win has enabled West Hallam to move within 14 points of leaders Marehay. It produced the closest finish, with Elvaston’s Ian Hall out off the last ball bowled by West Hallam’s Campbell Ogilvie. Earlier Ogilvie had scored 50, and their score was boosted by an eighth wicket stand between Andrew Heggarty (63 not out) and Peter Hort (38 not out). Andy Brear top scored for Elvaston, but it was a lack lustre batting display against good bowling with Hort taking 3-13 and Danny Haddon 3-40.

Spondon 159-6 drew with Lullington Park 113-9

This was a frustrating day for Spondon. They had Lullington at their mercy with nine wickets down, but Lullington’s last pair hung on for 14 overs to earn a draw. The Spondon total included 43 from Joe Ashdown, 34 from Dave Harrowing and 35 from David Tainton.. Lullington were in some difficulty from the start of their reply against tight bowling from Joe Kellogg (4-26) and Dean Vickers (3-46), but earned their draw with the last wicket stand.

Morton 173-8 lost to Belper Meadows 174-4 by 6 wickets

This was another close finish, with the winning run coming with three balls left. James Miller provided the backbone to the Morton innings, scoring 60. Belper were well served by bowler Gareth Goodall (3-30) and when they batted by Gavin Fernyhough (34) , Carl Parkin (30) and Ben McGonigal who was 54 not out.

Nutbrook 117 lost to Selston Town 118-4 by 6 wickets

This was a clash between the two bottom sides. Selston will be pleased with their win but their position remains precarious. Nutbrook batted first and were tumbled out for a very modest score, with Matt Sisson (40) their top scorer. Paul Appleby (55 not out) stayed long enough to steer Selston home.

Abbey Glass Division 2

Two games were washed out without a ball being bowled, that between Denby 2nds and Alfreton and the game between Little Eaton and Aston on Trent.

Ticknall 171-4 beat Brailsford 170 by 6 wickets

This win puts Ticknall in a strong position in their drive for promotion. They are one point behind leaders Denby 2nds, which means that they are top of the Division because Denby are denied promotion under League rules. It was a good batting performance by Brailsford, with good knocks from Andy France (66) and Wayne Tunstall (44). Zac Lucas was the pick of the Ticknall bowlers, taking 5-43. In the Ticknall reply Luke Harvey made 35 and Rob Dumelow was 47 not out. Tunstall completed a good match by taking 3-33

Duffield 127-3 beat Rolleston 126-9 by 7 wickets

Another good win for Duffield which keeps them in second place and, therefore in a promotion spot.They bowled well to confine Rolleston to such a modest score. Ed Sims took 3-40 and Chris Elliott 3-36, and for Rolleston Paul Allen scored 43. Elliott then featured in Duffield’s reply, scoring 67 not out. It is going to be an exciting end of season in this Division because Mickleover are only seven points behind Duffield, and Rolleston can’t be entirely ruled out.

Mickleover 112 beat Allestree 61 by 51 runs

Damp conditions affected the scores and Mickleover’s low total was more than enough. Alan Worth who has joined them from Stainsby was Mickleover’s top scorer with 41, and there was a good spell of bowling from Allestree’s Matt Sirrell who took 5-25. Mickleover’s Anthony Wagstaffe wrecked the Allestree innings in taking 6-12.

Ockbrook 2nds 108 lost to Sandiacre Town 2nds 112-6 by 4 wickets

David Jordison took 3-17 as Ockbrook were dismissed for an unusually low total, and when Sandiacre batted Ian Hopkinson’s innings of 52 not out marked the difference between the two sides. There was a good spell from Ockbrook’s Tom Holmes who took 4-39.

Derbyshire Building Society Division 3A

Ambergate’s game with Tibshelf was called off because their ground was waterlogged. So they had to be satisfied with 5 points, and the closing pack were able to close the gap.

Elvaston 2nds and Swarkestone both moved to within 5 points from their winning draws. Elvaston built up the highest score of the day, 264-4, which included 55 from Trevor Hessey and 82 not out from Rob Kettlewell, but they were held to the draw when Rolls Royce held firm at 179-7, with Malcolm Mason scoring 60.

Swarkestone scored 132-7 against Quarndon 2nds and then had their opponents 87-8 at the close, Dave Dixon taking 4-24. A&B 2nds, in fourth place, were well beaten by Spondon 2nds who posted a score of 153-8. The bowlers were on top in this game, Mick Ottewell for A&B with 4-27, and Mick Lomas (4-15) and Steven Dash (4-21) for Spondon as A&B were dismissed for 80.

Derby Congs had the better of their game with Darley Abbey but had to be satisfied with a winning draw. They scored 212-6, which included 64 from Mahroof Hussain and 80 not out fro Mark Baines. Hussain featured as a bowler, taking 5-48 as Darley Abbey were reduced to 156-8, with R Bestwick making 68.
