Chesterfield will be captained by David Adams, the brother of the Sussex skipper, and Tim Kirk has moved to vice-captain.

The club is pleased with the decision to use their Queen's Park ground for a first class match. Starting on June 6th there will be a three day match between Sri Lanka and the MCC, which will be televised on Channel 4.

As regards playing strength they will have much the same squad as last year. They are negotiating to sign an ex-County player and have their sights on a young off spinner. Dean Hopkinson returns to the club after a stint with Heanor Town and they hope to have Oxford blue Alan Gofton available as a regular player.

Ilkeston Rutland are hoping that Kim Barnett and Matthew Cassar will sign for them. These two players are, of course, contracted to first class counties and no doubt their availability will be seriously limited, but both have close connections with Ilkeston.

Martin Brandrick remains as the captain and Dave Smit, a prolific batsman remains with them very much as an all rounder, as do Ian Banks, Stuart Edge and young hopeful Carl Doar. There is a bonus from the fact that Martin Green, who wasn't a regular last season, will be available full time and this will greatly strengthen the batting.

They had hoped to sign an Aussie overseas player but the person of their choice is injured. They will score a lot of runs, but will they be able to bowl sides out?

Langley Mill had an indifferent season last year, but surprised us all with their success in the Derbyshire Cup. They defeated Dunstall in the final with plenty to spare.

This season they look very much stronger with the return of Adrian Marsh and Simon Lacey, both of whom were formerly contracted to Derbyshire. The bowling will be boosted by the signing of New Zealander Damien Collard who was previously with Stainsby.

They retain the services of Sam Patel who has played with great distinction for the England Under 19 team, and Rayim Karim, two players who performed so well for them last year. They expect a great deal from young Josh Mierkelns who has shown promise as a member of the Notts Under 17 side.

Andy Thompson , who was due to continue as captain has decided to switch his allegiance to Cutthorpe in the Bassetlaw League, so Simon Lacey will take over as skipper. They will be expected to offer a stiff challenge.
