Chesterfield 238 lost to Dunstall 239-9 by 1 run

This was a real thriller, with the result being decided off the very last ball. First, Dunstall's batting was livened up by another brilliant century from West Indies star Phil Simmons (106), and there was good support from Matthew Benstead (45) . Tim Kirk took 3-66 and Ian Jones 4-52. Chesterfield went all out for the win, with good performances from Brad Ediriweera (44), Dave Adams (42) and Sam Malpas (38). Best bowling for Dunstall came from Martin Clewley (5-65). When the last ball was called Chesterfield wanted one for a tie and two for the win. The last pair gambled on the single, but a good throw ensured a run out.

Ockbrook 292-5 dec drew with Sawley LE Park 262-6

Ockbrook batted first, and after a tentative start which took them to 73-4 the tempo was increased by an explosive partnership between skipper Dave Hallack and Trevor Smith which yielded 174 runs. Hallack was out for 118 and Smith was 103 not out when Ockbrook declared after 50 overs. This gave them 60 overs to dismiss Sawley and they started well enough with two early wickets, but then there was real resistance as 17 year old Bilal Shafayet and Dan Birch took the initiative. This was a commendable effort because they were facing up initially to two experienced county bowlers, Paul Aldred and Trevor Smith. Birch was out for 41 and Ahmed Gondal kept up the momentum with a hard hit 68. Shafayet went on to make 121, a brilliant knock from a class player, but they ran out of overs with 30 runs still needed.

Langley Mill 163-6 drew with Denby 224

Denby batted first and were all out with one over still to go. Ian Parkin made 51 and their new signing, Dutchman Nick Statham added 44 and showed good promise. For the Millers Damien Collard took 4-93 and Zahid Iqbal 3-41, but their batting was disappointing apart from 46 from Adrian Marsh, and the innings drifted inconclusively, to end up well short. For Denby Steve Bullock took 3-27.

Quarndon 203-8 beat Ilkeston Rutland 162 by 41 runs

This was a welcome win for Quarndon after setting a target which was gettable. Billy Bagshawe was their top scorer with 38 and there was a useful contribution from skipper Mark Tournier (33). Rutland were in with a real chance when David Smit and Matt Cassar got going, but when they were out, Smit for 58 and Cassar for 41 the wickets began to tumble. Kevin Newbold took 3-60 and there was a crucial spell from Gary Myers (5-24)

Clifton 202 lost to Sandiacre Town 263 by 61 runs

Another impressive performance by Sandiacre Batting first they piled on the runs, with good knocks from Chris Attwood (55), Rob Attwood (53), Imtiaz Ahmed (38) and Simon Kinselle (35). For Clifton David Lawrence took 5-96 and Ant Botha 3-62. Clifton's reply was dominated by Kamran Afzaal who was still there at the close on 124 not out. Star bowler for Sandiacre was Naeem Akhtar who took 6-28.

Alvaston & Boulton 151 lost to Wirksworth 155-4 by 6 wickets

A & B , who were champions two seasons ago, are having a rough time, and they will not be pleased with this defeat. Key players have decided to move to the second team and they are missed. Their very modest total of 151 included 30 from Anthony Woolley and 55 not out from Adris Azam, not nearly enough on a good pitch. Wirksworth's overseas player, Adnan Naeem was in fine form, taking 7-54, including a hat-trick, and opener David Greatorex produced a solid innings of 71 to steer his side to victory.
