DERBYSHIRE COUNTY LEAGUE UNDER 21'S V DERBYSHIRE COLTS Played at Elvaston CC on Bank Holiday Monday June 3rd. Derbyshire Colts 231-3 beat The Derbyshire Under 21's 149-9 by 82 runs The game was reduced to 44 overs because of early rain. The Colts batted first and got off to a brilliant start with an opening stand of 129 by James Guthrie (Ockbrook) and Adam Burgess (Kiveton Park). Guthrie was out for 51 and Burgess for 60. The score was boosted by an explosive innings from Yusaf Anwar (Sheffield Utd) who raced to his 50 in only 25 balls. He finished on 66 not out, helped along by Andrew Goodwin (Lullington Park) who made 25. The Under 21's made an early impression with opener Sam Kellogg (Spondon) scoring 50. Ross Perry-Taylor (Denby) made 26 but the innings suffered when Anwar was called on to bowl. Players who looked comfortable against the seam attack were confused by the amount of turn he generated with his off-spinners. The innings crumbled as he took 5-22, but it went the full distance, with the last pair hanging on, albeit 82 runs behind. |
