| THE MAYOR OF DERBY’S CRICKET CHARITY COMPETITION 2002 THE JACKSON CUP SECOND SEMI-FINAL PLAYED AT OCKBROOK ON WEDNESDAY JULY 17 Denby 156-4 lost to Ockbrook 160-1 by 9 wickets Ockbrook batted first and got off to a good start as Steve Bullock and Ian Parkin put on 92 for the first wicket when Bullock was out to Omar Gondal for 39. Parkin continued to punish the bowling until he, too, was out for 75, again to the bowling of Gondal. Stuart Poplar threatened a big score but he was out caught in the deep before he was really set. This was a crucial wicket because the run rate dropped and the final score was below what was expected after such a good start. For Ockbrook Ian Darlington took 2-17 and Omar Gondal 2-49. Ockbrook’s openers Trevor Smith and Johnny Owen put on 26 before Smith was bowled by Ian Parkin. Then Owen and his new partner Dave Wood gained control and increased the run rate to such an extent that they reached their target with more than two overs to spare. Owen was 71 not out and Wood 54 not out. The Final of the Jackson Cup between Ockbrook and Sawley & LE Park .will be played at the County Ground on Friday July 26; 6.00 pm start |
