A lot of Arsenal Fans recently hid behind the sofa, no it wasn’t Doctor Who, but a penalty shoot out against Sheffield Utd. Personally I was as cool as a cucumber.
I knew there was nothing to worry about, we would miss, so why get het up about it? I remember that in the UEFA Vase Final David Dein, just before the shootout, congratulated his Turkish counterpart on their victory. The man was quite surprised, but Dein explained that Arsenal didn’t do penalties. He was right.
So what went right this time? Ashley Cole has revealed the secret:
"We had all taken penalties in training the day before the game and were joking that it would go to penalties, so we were relaxed when it came to the shoot-out because we were confident."
Wow what a clever idea. Do you remember that Arsene used to say there was no point in practising them, because you could not replicate real game conditions?
Well he has changed his mind – well done Arsene – now can the team train for corners, free kicks and throw ins. I am sure we could get another 10 goals a year. And give a few less away as well. Hey we could be top right now.
