DEFEAT at Grove Park all but confirmed Nuneaton's relegation from National Division Two with four games to play. Nuns remain 19 points below the safety line despite a valiant effort which made sure that high-flying Manchester, like leaders Otley in their previous game, had to work hard for a win which keeps alive their own hopes of promotion.

Following a lively start, Nuns were first to put points on the board after just three minutes when winger Aaron Takarangi broke into space down the touchline to score in the corner, Huw Thomas unable to convert the try.

The home side hit back immediately with the first of two tries from Richard Wainwright, converted by Gareth Wynne A free kick in the centre of the park set up the platform for Manchester's second try, second row Matt Owen crashing over to stretch the home side's lead to 12-5.

The home side had the majority of possession, but Nuns had their moments and after going close on the half hour only to be penalised on the floor inches from the Manchester line, they concluded a lively spell on 35 minutes when Thomas stroked over a penalty.

It proved their last points of the afternoon and two minutes into first-half stoppage time Manchester stole a Nuns line-out to set up a try for powerful winger Selorm Kuadey to give the hosts a 17-8 lead at the interval.

The second half was more of the same as Manchester made Nuns work for their possession and while there were some promising moves from the visitors, the home side rarely looked out of control with Wainwright and Wynne adding tries, one converted by the latter to seal their victory.
