WARWICKSHIRE will strengthen their links with Uruguay over the Easter weekend when the touring Old Christians club from Montevideo play two matches in the county. The Old Christians Under-19 team play South Warwickshire at Old Leamingtonians on Sunday (noon) and their senior side take on Broadstreet later in the afternoon (4pm).

Earlier in the season two of Uruguay's leading referees, Eduardo Blengioe and Gustavo Gerbasi took charge of games in Warwickshire and, as part of an exchange programme that has been set up, three members of the Warwickshire Society of Referees will visit Uruguay in August.

Mark Greenway and Sam Kincaid will referee matches in Uruguay with Ian Roberts travelling as an assessor.

The Old Christians arrive in the Midlands from Ireland where they played games against Lansdowne and Skerries last weekend.

The club was involved in the horrific Andes plane crash in 1972 en route to a tournament in Chile. Sixteen players were rescued after enduring 72 days in the ice and snow and their harrowing struggle for survival was told in the Hollywood film 'Alive.'

The refereeing teams appointed for this weekend's matches by the Warwickshire Society include Dave Knowles, a former rugby league referee who has switched codes following his move to the Midlands.
