STOURBRIDGE’S director of rugby Neil Mitchell was not celebrating even though his side secured their first win of the season with a six-try demolition of their Cornish visitors at Stourton Park. Though Stourbridge scored some sparkling tries, the overall performance disappointed Mitchell who had some harsh words for his players ahead of next weekend’s game against Blaydon.

“I have never been so disappointed after winning so well,” Mitchell said. “To score 44 points you have to do something very special but Mounts Bay were nothing special and this was a pretty average performance from us.

“At one stage they were down to 13 men, it was eight forwards against six, but we gave away five penalties and conceded a try during that period which is totally unacceptable.”

Mitchell’s mood was improved slightly by an outstanding debut from centre Will Barcley, who was voted man of the match, and an encouraging display from winger Tom Hughes, who scored a try.

Ally Bressington was the major contributor to the victory with 24 points, including two tries.
