Coventry bring winger Ben Toft 'home' from Doncaster Knights

COVENTRY have brought one of their prodigal sons back to the Butts Park Arena with the signing of winger Ben Toft.

The 26-year-old played three seasons when Cov were in the Championship between 2006-09, during which time he established himself as a popular player and made 56 appearances.

Having played in France since then and spent last term back in the second tier with Doncaster, Toft has agreed a deal that will keep him at Coventry for the next two years.

Rugby director Phil Maynard has also confirmed the retention of Callum MacBurnie, the Moseley centre who spent the final couple of months of 2011-12 on loan.

The 22-year-old impressed in five starts for the Blue and Whites and has made a permanent switch across the Midlands and signed a 12-month deal.

The pair are just the latest with Championship experience to commit to Coventry’s summer fortification as they attempt to return to level two.

And Toft hopes to play a big part in that. “It’s going to be great to be back because it feels like it is my home,” the former Leicester Tiger said.

“When I heard that Coventry were interested and Phil made contact things moved very quickly.

Agree with you there, Dave. This is an astute signing. Ben was one of those players who was noticeably visible on the pitch and who insantly brought a buzz of anticipation from the crowd when he had the ball.
As Dave says, Welcome Home Ben!

Agreed. Should be very effective at this level.
Welcome home Ben.
Good to see Callum has made the switch too. May your stay be a happy and fruitful one (Sm13)
