This is the winner of the Wordsmith Competition this year. Although it was the only entry (ND1 season did not appear to bring out the best), it is superb in it's wit, brevity and accuracy.I will not announce the name of the author yet, as i thought you should have an opportunity to guess. The winner will be awarded the prize of a good bottle of Scotch, kindly donated by Chris Hoddle.
Wordsmith competition 2008
Being a staunch supporter of the use of plain English, it is with some trepidation, that in postprandial mood, having partaken of a delicious flummery, I join, serotine, the ranks of lexiphanesand Lychnobites whose excursivevaudeville has lightened these dark months. With an extensive use of nosism and an endless cavalcade of algorithms, these erudite posters fulminate and wax lyrical in their contributions to that vanguard, that force majeure, that is Come on You Saints.com.
Supererogatory criticism, incongruous metaphor and moliminous hyperbole have all been observed from these passionate posters, indurate to the penance Saints must serve, but equally intent on immediate return to their echt position in the premiership. One season lying recumbent in the dingle of ND1, playing on the titianleasof the West country, against hirsute props from the impecunious, foundlings of this division will suffice. The pinchbeckrapprochement between the hierarch and ND1 has been seen at close quarter and nothing has ever been more lucent than that this is not where Saints belong - Come on you Saints!
