Spin in Full Swing from ECB

The full weight of the ECB spin machine has been operating at maximum power over the past couple of weeks, firstly celebrating England's 'fantastic' winter of test cricket, and then recently, letting eveyone know how the new '100 ball' format will be a major success in the over crowded world of our favourite game.

Just as Joe Root was leading the England team on a lap on honour in St.Lucia to 'celebrate' a consolation test win, in the 2-1 series loss to West Indies, the England Cricket media department were quick on the draw on social media to lap this up as 'four wins from six tests this winter', went the headline.

Talk of glossing over the appalling 77 all out in Barbados in the opening test match, and the massacre in Antigua which saw England trapped like a rabbit in the headlights.

England were simply blown away by a West Indies superbly lead by Jason Holder, yet here we had the England propaganda machine, celebrating as though the opening two test matches didn't matter, and somehow the Sri Lanka series was merged with the trip to the Caribbean.

If that didn't bring enough shooting down with comments from the cricketing public, England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Tom Harrison has popped his head above the Lord's pavillion and said 'the hundred as been a success already'.

This is of course despite any meaning competitive games with anyone, just a behind closed doors game played at Trent Bridge last summer.

Eight newly formed city teams will play the format from 2020 over a five-week period.

Harrison told the BBC "Cricket fans can start to get very excited about this. "We've managed to create something that's excited partners. We've managed to generate new revenue, new levels of exposure to this tournament, reach to a wider audience."

With fans still confused as to why we need a fourth competition in an already crowded market, it remains to be seen if fans will take to this new format.

One thing we can't argue however, is that Alaistar Campbell would be proud of the spin machine at the ECB.
