Sri Lanka tour will kill Duleep Trophy

By Ananth D

The emergency "BCCI 120 Crore loss-softener" tour will kill what was going to be a salivating prospect in the Duleep Trophy which is slated to run between Jan 22 and Feb 9. This completely academic and useless tour runs between Jan 28 - Feb 5.

This tour is particularly galling since this is a last minute "emergency" arrangement against a nation where India just toured a couple of months back for a mind numbing one day series.

We had the elusive Sachin Tendulkar participating in the SFs & Finals of the Ranji Trophy.

Almost certainly he'd have turned out for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, but for this untimely intervention and most of his India colleagues would have turned up.

A full strength North Zone West Zone contest would be better than many Test matches (in terms of the contest).

Boards across the game have been "killing domestic cricket" for years ananthd , the only time we see our England players in County cricket is when they are dropped (and out of form) or injured and sent back to regain fitness .

Central contracts killed seeing your domestic "stars" long before the big money festival tournament cricket arrived to put the tin lid on seeing the likes of Strauss , Sehwag and Tendu more than a couple of times a year without a Test or ODI ticket in your hand .

Stuff the spectator at grass roots level it's all about the TV and Sponsorship money is the attitude of the boards today .

Diamond, I know that Boards are greedy and put short term financial gain over long term development....

But this tour is particularly galling since this is a last minute "emergency" arrangement against a nation where India just toured a couple of months back for a mind numbing one day series....

I mean we had the elusive Sachin Tendulkar participating in the SFs & Finals of the Ranji Trophy....

Almost certainly he'd have turned out for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy, but for this untimely intervention and most of his India colleagues would have turned up.....

I mean seriously, a full strength North Zone West Zone contest would be better than many Test matches(in terms of the contest)....

I think this is a purely 'political' tour. SL cricket board kicked out Ranatunga as the board president to make the BCCI happy and now the BCCI is returning the favour! I wish SL visited India for a test series instead. This one day series is such a bore.

I'd rather the players got some rest...

Players don;t need rest...they need to play non-stop.

If some burn-out otehr are in line to replace.

I would have been happier that there were two tests...but I hear Dhoni opposed any tests against SL

Not for fear of being beaten by them surely anu_d ?

You have recently taken down the all conquering Aussies and the Champions of the Northern Hemesphere at that level of the game .

No , it will be the big bucks ODI TV Sponsorship money talking again and from the look of even this thread the last thing most people want is another ODI series .

I'll take ODI's over Tests anyday. I cant take a 5 day contest in any sport.

IMO, cricket should be about T20 & ODI's - and Tests can be phased out.

I love BCCI. I wish they could've played some T20s too. \o/

Yeah the ODIs will disrupt the Duleep Trophy, but hopefully the "Test Specialists" like VVS and Dravid will still play Duleep..

Dravid is a megalo idiot...who is reported to have said before the Ranji QF ( in whihc he contributed a scratch average of 27 and got thrashed by a medicore Saurashtra)...." Boys wanted me to join the team...and some blah, blah about a young group needing experience to gel together"

making it sound as if he didn't want to or need to play...but was only complyign to the humble requests of the juniors.

This is caleld Rassi jal gayee, par bal nahee jaley"

It's a reward tour for sacking Ranatunga

actually Pak should thank Rantunga for current SL team in PAK, otherwise BCCI might have arranged more matches with SL.

Rantunga tried to play smart by arranging SL VS ENG in IPL time and now PAK. this guy has something against BCCI in his mind.BUT BCCI is not Harper even that time Dalmiya(BCCI) supported him.

I don't think Ranatunga has anything against the BCCI. He doesn't seem to be happy with SL players playing in the IPL. Jealous, most likely.

May be Ranatunga is unhappy because BCCI promised money to SLCB and did not follow through. I don't think BCCI is an honest broker.

Off break, doosra, yorker, googly, straight drive, sweep, square cut, late cut ... I love them all.

These ODI's against SL will be a big bore. I would much rather watch the Duleep Trophy.

India - World Cup winners 2011!!!
Champions Trophy winners 2013!!!
Congrats to Indian team and all Indian fans!
