Pujara Signs On With Yorkshire

Not being part of the IPL and being slotted as a Test Specialist... Pujara tries to hone his skills by joining County Champs Yorkshire for a brief stint.

One of India's leading top-order Test batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara, is set to ply his skill with English county team Yorkshire in their 2015 season. A batsman of the classical mould, Pujara already has two international double-hundreds against his name from 27 Test matches.

A late entrant to the county team, he was inducted by Yorkshire as a replacement to Pakistan's Younis Khan. Pujara will carry on the legacy of Indian players in Yorkshire, the one started by Sachin Tendulkar, who was the first overseas player to play for Yorkshire.

This will be Pujara's second stint in the county circuit. In the previous season he had played for Derbyshire “I’m very excited and honoured to be signing for Yorkshire County Cricket Club,” Pujara was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire County Cricket Club website.

“I was looking to return to the UK after my previous experience of county cricket, which I greatly enjoyed and when Yorkshire made the offer I didn’t think twice. To wear the same white rose that Sachin Tendulkar once did is going to be a great feeling for me. I hope I can contribute to further success,” Pujara said.

The county too is pleased to have the Indian batsman in their line-up. Speaking about the talented young Indian player, Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon was quoted saying, “Pujara is an outstanding young Test cricketer who is hungry to perform in the English game. In the brief conversations I have had with him he is very much looking forward to be joining Yorkshire and being part of our plans.

“He is a classy right-hander that likes to dominate the crease and he will be a big asset for us during the early part of the new campaign. He speaks fondly of wanting to play for Yorkshire and we are looking forward to welcoming to Headingley and hopefully he can make an impression in the first month of the season with us,” Moxon said.
