The National Village Championship gets serious when the national stage of the competition starts on July 7th. Last year's winners Ynystawe, who comfortably beat Derbyshire's Elvaston in the Lords final, are through.
| The South Wales side won the Glamorgan & Gwent regional group and meet fellow Welsh side Carew from Dyfed in the first round. Elvaston, too, are through. They cruised through their Derbyshire group, hardly breaking into a sweat in the process. They have to travel over the border to Nottinghamshire to meet South Notts League championship contenders Gotham Village. Also through to the first round are last year's beaten semi-finalists Wolviston from the Durham, Cleveland and Tyne & Wear group. Wolviston were narrowly beaten by Elvaston in a tense game at the Durham club. Elvaston came out top on that occasion by two wickets. The two are both in the same half of the draw again, so a repeat match is a possibility. The full draw for the National Competition is as follows: First round - July 7th 1. Sparsholt (Hampshire)
v Rowledge (Surrey & Berkshire) Second round - 21st July 17. Winners of match
1 v Winners of match 2 Third round - 4th August 25. Winners of match
17 v Winners of match 18 Semi Finals - 18th August 29. Winners of match
25 v Winners of match 26 Final - 1st September at Lords 31. Winners of match 29 v Winners of match 30 |
