Resuming on 239 for four - still 116 runs away from making India bat again -England's hopes of preserving their 1-0 lead in the series rested with Nasser Hussain and Alec Stewart extending their 91-run partnership which had already frustrated the tourists for 152 minutes.

But after surviving the opening 40 minutes of the final day at Headingley as captain Hussain completed his 12th Test century, England slumped to 309 all out to confirm India's innings and 46 runs victory - their first in England since winning at the same ground in 1986.
