England stormed to their target with over 12 overs to spare, Marcus Trescothick smashing 58 and Nick Knight a composed 81 not out.

Knight, guiding into gaps on either side of the wicket, shared a 100-run stand for the first wicket with Trescothick, who initially led the way, driving powerfully on the up and using his feet to the seamers to hit over the top.

Trescothick's half-century arrived from 53 balls, including six fours as well as those two sixes, but he fell when he mistimed a slower ball from Graham which found its way to square leg.

His departure ushered Michael Vaughan to the crease and the Yorkshire batsman kept with the tempo by taking Graham for 11 off three balls.

However, Tyron Henderson's return at the pavilion end saw Vaughan dismissed, caught behind, having made 29 from 26 balls - and it was left to Knight to complete the pursuit of 203.

He swept off-spinner Laden Gamiet for six over midwicket and reverse swept two further boundaries in his 112-ball innings while Nasser Hussain chipped in with an unbeaten 19.

Earlier, Craig White proved his recovery from a torn side muscle by sending down an impressive 10-over spell which brought two wickets from short deliveries. He finished with figures of 10-3-27-2.

Meanwhile, Harmison followed up the early successes of James Anderson and Andrew Flintoff, who claimed one wicket apiece, with three of his own and Giles then followed suit to put Border in serious trouble.

Steven Pope prolonged the innings with a graceful 89, and a few lusty blows from Sodumo helped the hosts above the 200 mark.
