Brilliant Law leads Lancashire to comfortable win

98 from 81 balls from overseas player Stuart Law gave Lancashire a 70 run win at Old Trafford against Hampshire Hawks. Carl Hooper also made 51 not out in a rain reduced game in front of the Sky cameras.

Match Report

Lancashire's injury problems in the bowling department meant that youngsters Sajid Mahmood and Steven Crook were called into the side. Rain meant that the Lancs innings was reduced to 30 overs, and former Lancashire batsmen John Crawley won the toss for the Hawks and put the home side in.

This looked like an excellent decision after Sutcliffe and Chilton departed early on, leaving Lancs 8-2. However, overseas players Stuart Law (98 from 81) and Carl Hooper (51 from 37) along with Mal Loye (41 from 46) guided the score to an impressive 231.

Hampshire started well but 75-0 turned into 79-5 with Mark Chilton picking up 3 valuable wickets, including Crawley (37) caught by Hegg down the leg side. Only Mascarenhas offered any hope for the Hawsk after that, with 37 from 27 balls, before being caught on the boundry by Law off Chapple.

Sajid Mahmood was impressive with the ball and Steven Crook showed genuine pace despite going for 22 from his 2 overs.
lancashire.tk's Man of the Match Stuart Law - coming in at 8-2, the Aussie once again did the business for Lancs with an impressive 98 including 7 fours and three sixes, leading the home side to a target that in the end was too many for the Hawks to chase.
