The Football League have somehow come to one of the most ridiculous conclusions in their history, the scrapping of draws. The idea that was first introduced a few months ago will be discussed by a board of Chairman in a meeting on Thursday afternoon, hopefully history will repeat itself.

Back in the 2002/3 season, the Football League decided that they wanted to extend the playoffs to 6 teams, meaning that the team that finished 9th in League 2 (or Divison 3 as it was known back then) could still get promoted whereas the team that finished 4th could easily have to put up with another year in the 4th tier. Rob Bradley, who was the Lincoln City chairman at the time, wasn't exactly surprised that the idea was never implemented, and hopefully the exact same thing will happen to their latest crackpot idea.

The newest idea is to scrap draws and then have either a penalty shoot out, or an 8 second race to the goal if the scores are level after 90 minutes. This has been greeted with great hostility by the majority of fans, citing the likely possibility that teams near the bottom would go to grounds and put 10 behind the ball for 90 minutes before then having a 50/50 chance to taking 3 points.

I would be the first major change regarding points since it became 3 points for a win back in 1981. That however is nothing compared to what would happen if the latest rubbish idea comes about. The only surprising thing about this whole farce is that Sepp Blatter is no-where near the idea.

Hopefully this idea will never be more than pure speculation because it would completely ruin the game as a spectacle and the hard work that the FL have put into putting more fans through the door, would be a complete waste of time as fans would leave in their 1000s after teams put 10 behind the ball with virtually no intention of attacking.
