Lincoln City were 2 goals to the good in virtually no time at all against Gillingham, however, a lot of City fans might go away disappointed that we seemed to sit back on the two goal lead after it was gained. It is City's fourth win in a row and we're now up to 10th, we could potentially move third on Saturday.

Gillingham started the game brighter than the hosts but couldn't bring anything good from their chances as the Imps very slowly started to take control. Despite a relatively quiet open ten minutes, City lit up a very cold Sincil Bank as they took the lead. The ball was played after a neat passing move from the right and Lee Frecklington headed into the net to join Adrian Patulea at the top of the goalscoring charts.

It wasn't long before it was 2-0 as Dany N'Guessan picked the ball up in midfield and ran forward. He was unchallenged as he went into the box and he launched a vicious shot past Royce and into the net and it was looking as though the Imps would rip Gillingham to pieces. It looked as though it would be three within a minute, but Patulea dragged his shot just wide.

Miller hit a shot wide for the visitors before City almost scored again. Frecklington and Patulea broke two-on-one but pass from the former to the latter saw Patulea shot wide first time. A few half chances for Gillingham all went over the net.

After a rather drab ending to the first half, City were awarded a penalty in the second minute of the second. N'Guessan was fouled in the area and the ref pointed to the spot, only to then see the linesman had flagged for offside....not that Lee Frecklington seemed to notice.

Patulea's poor game continued as he shot wide from a good Oakes ball before McCammon was replaced by Jarrett for Gillingham. The visitors were now having the majority of posession but not actually doing anything with it at all, that was thanks to a resolute City defence.

Neither side managed a decent chance before the end of the game and other than a few substitutions, nothing noteworthy happened and City went 10th.

I thought the passing to set up the second goal was some of the best football I've seen from a city side for some time .
