Imps boss, Keith Alexander is believed to be about to block Lee Beevers from his Welsh Under 21 call up. Keith doesn't want the young defender to miss out on two vital games that could go a long way to decided the fate of the Imps' season.
Beevers would miss the games away at Rushden and the Sky Sports game against Scunthorpe over the Easter weekend if he was going to play for the Welsh Under 21's.
"I really have no idea what I can do about the situation, but I'll certainly be contacting the Welsh FA about it," stated the City boss to the Echo "I obviously knew Lee was a Welsh international when we signed him and that he would receive call-ups. "There's no way I want to hold him back and, normally, I'd be delighted for him. But we are going for promotion and I need him. "With two games in as many days, it's a crucial weekend he'll be missing and I can't afford to be without him. It is an honour for the club and for Lee, but on this occasion I believe our needs are greater because of where we are in the table and how much of the season there is left. He's just got into our side and has settled in well since coming to us."
Beevers however is mixed about which set of games he would rather do. The young defender started Under 21 duties whilst playing for Boston but now is a bit torn between his duties of representing his country or helping the team who pay his wages try and gain promotion.
"I'm happy to have got in the side and I've been fairly pleased with how things have gone," who, despite being born in Doncaster, qualifies for the Welsh squad because his mother's family is from Wales, "I'm still getting used to how Lincoln play and what is expected of me, but I feel I'm settling in well. But obviously I would miss two vital games for Lincoln while I'm away with Wales.
"There is strong competition throughout the City team, so I know I'll have to start again when it comes to getting my place back. But I'm prepared for that and looking forward to the challenge.
"I enjoyed my Wales debut last month, despite the result. I don't think 4-0 was a fair reflection of how we played on the night. "The tempo was certainly different to what you normally come across in League Two. It's slower and more relaxed when you are on the ball at under-21 level. I want to improve as a player and I think taking part in games like this will help me do that. One day, hopefully I'll make it into the senior squad."
