In a surprise twist, Doncaster have entered the fray of clubs chasing highly rated Imps defender, Gareth McAuley. On Tuesday, it emerged that Nottingham Forest were after him, however, since then, Keith Alexander has said he will sell McAuley in the transfer window due to recent revelations

Keith has been keen to negotiate a new contract with the defender, however, his agent has refused to allow Keith to speak to McAuley about a new defender as it emerged that Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Leicester City, with the yorkshire men appearing to be leading the race. McAuley was apparantly set to join Forest in the transfer window, however, since the news broke, several other teams have joined the race to sign the 6'3 defender.

Keith believes that McAuley's agents are now holding on for the end of the season, to guarantee McAuley a free transfer out of the club due to the contract expiring in June. Alexander, who signed the defender from Coleraine, told Radio Lincolnshire

"We have been trying to get discussions going with him and his people. They have decided they don't want to talk to us because it is obvious he has been tapped by other people. He has played for the Irish national team they want to wait and see what other offers he gets at the end of his contract. If that is the case we will try and move him on in the window."

McAuley had apparantly agreed to join Forest, however, he has now told the former European Champions that he will need time to make a decision about his future, which means, he could only have 5 games left in an Imps' shirt.
