Marriott's record means penalties must be avoided

If City do win tomorrow night, they could be set for a penalty shoot out but given Marriott's recent record, that's not good. Marriott hasn't saved a penalty since November 2003 and more often than not, goes the wrong direction and it means that City must avoided penalties at all cost.

Marriott hasn't saved a penalty since November 29th 2003 when he saved an early penalty in a 3-1 defeat at Yeovil Town. Marriott had saved the previous 2 penalties but since then, his record facing penalties has been far from impressive. Infact, Marriott hasn't even guessed the right way since December 2003 when he almost kept a Liam Lawrence penalty. The only consolation with him not saving many penalties is that we don't often lose when the opposition score from the spot.

Liam Lawrence steps up and although Marriott gets a hand to it, he can't prevent it entering the net. However, City won the game 2-1

Mansfield Home in 2003/4

Liam Lawrence does his impressive of an olympic standard diver and then slots his penalty to Marriott's left as the keeper dives to his right. City however win 4-1.

Huddersfield Away (Playoffs) in 2003/4

Danny Schofield slots the ball to Marriott's left as he dives right. It ends 2-2 on the night but 4-3 to Huddersfield on aggregate and City are out.

Southend Home in 2004/5

Wayne Gray wins a highly controversial penalty and aims to Marriott's left, guess where Marriott goes, yep, you've guessed it, his right. It ends 1-1.

Boston United Home in 2004/5

Another controversial penalty sees the scorer aim to Marriott's left and yet again, he goes right and the game ends 2-2.

Birmingham City Away (Carling Cup) in 2004/5

Robbie Savage steps up and aims to Marriott's right but guess where Marriott dives, to his left and it ends 3-1.

Southend Away in 2004/5

Marriott's learnt to dive to his left but Eastwood slots the ball to his right and the game ends 1-1.

Notts County Away in 2004/5

Marriott dives left but the scorer aims right and it ends 1-0 to County.

Yeovil Town Away in 2004/5

Marriott left, Jevons right, goal, finishes 3-0 to Yeovil.

Chester City Away in 2005/6

Marriott dives left, scorer aims right, last minute goal, makes it 2-2.
