Former Imps' defender, Jamie McCombe today revealed in an interview that he enjoyed his time whilst at Sincil Bank. McCombe let the Imps just under 2 weeks ago to join League One side Bristol City after winning the Imps' Player of the Season and he says his move was for pure footballing reasons.

McCombe left Sincil Bank after 26 months after joining from local rivals, Scunthorpe United and despite getting off to a slow start, he became the one of the most popular players at Sincil Bank. When Paul Morgan got injured, McCombe was handed the captain's armband for the final half of last season and he really came into his own. He even kept the captaincy when Paul Morgan returned to the squad but couldn't prevent the Imps' from taking a semi-final exit in the playoffs, a defeat that made his departure seem imminent. After initially being linked to Crewe, Bristol City came in at the 11th hour.

Now the defender has his sights set on proving his worth at a higher level but has said he enjoyed his time at Sincil Bank. Speaking to Bristol City's official site, McCombe said :

"Chances like this one don't come along very often and I couldn't wait to join. However, I had a really good time at Lincoln and was their captain for half a season, which I really enjoyed. The fans were fantastic with me. It's a shane to leave but in football, you hae to try and improve yourself. I want to play at the highest level possible and this is a major step towards what I want to achieve. I'm 23 now and I just want to get here, establish myself in the first team and prove to the Bristol City supporters I'm a good player."
