Morton 84 lost to Marehay 203-6 by 119 runs

Another big win for Marehay which keeps them at the top. They were again indebted to their overseas player Arif Mehmood who scored a very lively century , exactly 100. Brian Gration scored 32 and for Morton Nigel Mallender took 4-49. Morton have a strong batting line-up but they are a bit unpredictable, and this was one of their off days. Danny Parkin (4-29) and John Grimadell (3-22) got amongs them early on and they never recovered. With only one team gaining promotion from this Division to the Premier League Marehay’s top spot is by no means certain. They are only 5 points ahead of West Hallam.

Staveley Welfare 117 lost to West Hallam 169-6 by 52 runs

This was an important win for West Hallam because it gave them 27 points. They are a real challenge because they have strength in depth. James Chapman showed how the batting has improved with another solid innings of 80 not out with support from Chris Rudd (35), who has revived his appetite for the game as an all-rounder . In the Staveley innings he intervened crucially by taking 4-12, encouraged by Steve Attenborough who took 4-30. For Staveley John Bullimore took 4-53 and when they batted John May (49) kept their hopes alive, but the rest of the batting failed.

Nutbrook 130 lost to Spondon 178-9 by 48 runs

Spondon are not going to be left behind, and they, too, gained 27 points, and they are determined to remain in contention. Batting first they were well served by Dave Harrowing (80) and Dave Thomas (36) who provided the backbone of the innings. They lost wickets cheaply later, with Matt Sisson returning the remarkable figures of 5-11. When Nutbrook batted there was a defiant innings from David Hack who remained undefeated on 47, but the day belonged to Spondon for whom Paul Cook took 4-12 and Lee Fox 3-37.

Selston Town 128-9 drew with Shipley Hall 160-8

Shipley Hall are by no means out of the race and could have done with a win in this game which they dominated. There was another fine performance from Harvinder Singh Sodhi, scoring 52 and taking 3-24, but Shipley failed to separate Selston’s last pair. Selston’s Anthony Aduhene took 4-41 and Ian Wood 3-22, and when they batted there was another splendid knock from Chris Dunn who made 68.

Belper Meadows 138-6 drew with Elvaston 192-8

Elvaston are slipping behind the leaders but they are by no means out of the race. This was a convincing winning draw. Batting first, Paul Birch (70) gave their score a boost, and for Belper there were good spells from Ben Tait (3-42) and Gareth Goodall (3-57). Belper’s reply fell short but there was a good innings from Ben McGonigal who made 48.

Lullington Park had a free day because of the withdrawal of Stainsby Hall, but a win in their spare game would put them amongst the leaders. It all promises an exciting second half to the season.

Abbey Glass Division 2

The top of this Division contains three teams which are the second elevens of Premier League sides. They are Denby 2nds (top), Sandiacre Town 2nds (second) and Ockbrook 2nds (fourth).They are ineligible because Division 1 is the feeder League to the Premier League and second elevens are not eligible for the Premier League. So, by extracting the three sides Ticknall are top followed by Rolleston and then Duffield,with two gaining promotion to Division 1.

Ockbrook 2nds 149 lost to Duffield 150-6 by 4 wickets

Ockbrook were without some key players who had been moved into the first team and this was reflected in their score. For Duffield Phil Jordan took 3-26 and Balrage Johal 3-40. Jordan also featured in Duffield’s reply, scoring 35 not out and with Keith Elliott making 64 they reached their target with four wickts to spare.

Denby 2nds 141-9 beat Mickleover 89 by 52 runs

A damp pitch gave some help to the bowlers with Mickleover’s Chris Bolton using it to take 5-29 and Stuart Divers 3-41. Lee Atkin was top scorer for Denby with 39 and he bowled well, taking 3-32. David Thompson was the most effective of the Denby bowlers, taking 4-25.

Sandiacre Town 2nds 75-2 beat Brailsford 74 by 8 wickets

Another damp pitch which posed problems for Brailsford who were shot out in quick time, with David Jordison taking 4-9 and Ron Patel 4-2 Sandiacre managed the pitch a great deal better and the game was quickly over.

Rolleston 166-9 drew with Alfreton 127-9

It was frustrating for Rolleston to be deprived of victory by the last pair, but the winning draw put them just 20 points behind Ticknall.. Sean Green (65) and Alan Mellor (32) were their top scorers, whilst for Alfreton Matt Linacre took 4-43 and Andy Fenn 3-38. Linacre was top scorer for Alfreton with 32 and for Rolleston Kevin Dent took 3-26.

Aston on Trent 244-5 drew with Allestree 129-8

Aston’s batsmen were happy with the conditions.Syed Faisal plundered the Allestree bowling on his way to 97 and there were good knocks from Khurshid Ali who made 32 and Arfan Fazal who was 56 not out. Allestree struggled with the required run rate and in the end they were content to play for the draw.
